The sensor is a 180 °F (82 °C) dual-function thermal switch that screws into the radiator or coolant manifold of Mercedes-Benz NG/NGM and selected Unimog, O 530 Citaro and heavy-duty engines. When coolant reaches 82 °C it closes the fan solenoid circuit, engaging the hydraulic or electric fan; when temperature falls back to ~75 °C it re-opens, disengaging the fan. This keeps charge-air, engine oil and coolant within the 90–105 °C window required for Euro 3/EPA Tier 3 emission compliance and prevents boil-over on 40 °C summer days or during long uphill hauls at full GCW.
Thread ½-14 NPTF, hex 22 mm, brass body nickel-plated 8 µm for 720 h salt-spray resistance. Contact arrangement SPDT (change-over) so it can be wired normally-open or normally-closed; rating 12/24 V DC 5 A resistive, insulation >100 MΩ at 500 V DC. Operating temperature –40 °C to +150 °C, response time <4 s in stirred water, differential 7 ± 2 °C. The nitrile O-ring withstands 0.6 MPa coolant pressure and 1 000 thermal cycles –30 °C ↔ +130 °C without weep. Screw terminals accept 2.5 mm² cable and the IP67 moulded connector excludes dust and wash-down water on construction or refuse-collection chassis.
